Cao Hong and His Loyalty 28.06.08

By Goenawan Lee posted in quote. Saturday, Jun 28th, 2008 at 5:53 am

Cao Cao, thrown into a flurry, mounted and fled. He ran right in the way of the waiting Xu Rong. Then he dashed off in another direction, but Xu Rong shot an arrow after him which struck him in the shoulder. The arrow still in the wound, Cao Cao fled for his life. As he went over the hill, two soldiers lying in wait among the grass suddenly dashed out and wounded his horse, which fell and rolled over. And as he slipped from the saddle, he was seized and made prisoner.

Just then a horseman came, riding at full speed and whirling his sword up, cut down both the captors, and rescued Cao Cao. It was Cao Hong.

Cao Cao said, “I am doomed, good brother. Go and save yourself!”

“My lord, mount my horse quickly! I will go afoot,” said Cao Hong.

“If those wretches come up, what then?” said Cao Cao.

“The world can do without Cao Hong, but not without you, my lord!”

“If I live, I shall owe you my life,” said Cao Cao.

Romance of Three Kingdoms, Chapter 6

The Battle of Xingyang, 190 AD, a scene when Cao Cao’s general Cao Hong yielded his horse to his lord, who was pursued by Lu Bu’s army. Cao Hong offered Cao Cao his horse but Cao Cao would not accept at first. Cao Hong then said–his legendary quote, “The world can do without Cao Hong, but not without you, my lord!” Thus he followed Cao Cao on foot and they withdrew back to Suanzao by night.

Cao Hong may not have been a great strategist, but he seemed to be a good and loyal general with a clear devotion to Cao Cao such as the time he gave him his horse to escape. He was a bit hot-headed against enemies, but humble towards Cao Cao. Unfortunately, Cao Cao once was greatly upset by Cao Hong’s reckless act, and ordered Cao Hong’s execution, but the advisors stopped him. However, Cao Cao was in danger of losing his life when Ma Chao defeated him. Once again, Cao Hong came to rescue his lord.

And, do you see the similar case in our beloved country?

  1. “Loyal… Don’t loyal. Life… Don’t life. You are too concerned with what was and with what will be. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.”

  2. Hmm… in Indonesia, huh… Unfortunately, I do not know of any specific cases where people who have been loyal towards whom they serve gets punished instead. But I can say… ouch.

    *dilempar karena komentar ga penting*

Ga dapat komentar pertama deh… :(

Tapi saya pernah menanyakan mengenai Keloyalan VS Disiplin.
Apakah Disiplin sudah pasti Loyal ?
Apakah keloyalan harus ditunjukkan dengan kedisiplinan?
Dan hasilnya ……………….. sekarang saya …

  7. However, Cao Cao was in danger of losing his life when Ma Chao defeated him. Once again, Cao Hong came to rescue his lord.

Ma Chao nggak pernah berhadapan langsung dengan Cao Cao sewaktu dia jadi Five Tiger General of Shu. Jadi cuma di Battle of Tong Pass saja dia hampir/nyaris membunuh Cao Cao tapi nyawa Cao Cao diselamatkan oleh pengawalnya.

Cao Cao memang beberapa kali nyaris dibunuh.

  8. Cao Hong rambut cepak so pasti nolong atasannya Cao Cao yg juga berambut cepak.. ah tapi itu hanya di Romance of The Rambut Cepak /:)

  9. Tetep lebih memuja Chao Zilong :-]

  10. apa ya yang mirip sama di indonesia?
tapi saya jadi inget game jaman bahela dulu, RTK :d

  11. Ini negara sampean yang mana? :D

Saya kok ndak mudeng peristiwa yang mana..

  18. And, do you see the similar case in our beloved country?

no I can’t find similar case in Indonesia… especially in the present time :d

  20. Loe ngomng apa seh????
